Perhaps the most convincing performance is the one in which the audience forgets they're watching.
But what happens if the audience is trapped in this show, living it every day, at all times? What if you are part of this audience? What if this show is the life we endure? Humans are promised freedom while borders are drawn around their thoughts, actions and even the understanding of reality. We watch governments rise, conflicts unfold, promises fade away, and history repeats itself; with every day becoming another scene in a story whose script is constantly rewritten by those who hold the pen.
The world feels more like a reality intensified by the falsified information we are fed, the propaganda we are expected to accept, and the laws that are praised in the morning only to be broken by the evening. Together, these contradictions cause most of the global issues humanity faces today. This year's MontessoriMUN ‘26 theme, The Grand Act, reflects the world we have created around ourselves — more of a performance in which whoever holds power dominates the stage, while humanity remains in the audience, watching the consequences of every act. Yet, the most unsettling part of the performance is that we have begun to mistake the stage for reality, and the silence of the audience as consent. We were never meant to remain seated.
